Masayuki Tsubota The wind of self x DAICEL Corporation 100th anniversary monumnet
The wind of self incorporates imagery of the diversity and the continuously fluctuating infinity of chemistry in its sculptural expression, and was created around the motif of the “wind” that continues to flow from ancient times. The conical shapes on the side of the work symbolize the axis of time that rises from the past, through the present and up into the future.
The large Origin Circle(designed and constructed by Obayashi Corporation), with a great kusunoki tree and the monument the wind of self at its nucleus, was created as a landscape that shows the beginnings of the business’ foundation in order to symbolize the cornerstone of their corporate identity, “Koka no myo mukyu” (meaning, “The wonders of chemistry are infinite”). Camphor, one of the ingredients needed to make celluloid, is extracted from the wood of the kusunoki. Together with the monument, it expresses the marvels and brilliance of the chemical industry.
