At artTNZ produced by AFT with APCA, we will be presenting a solo show of works by Seishu Niihira (b. 1988).

Using the optical phenomena of reflection, transmission, and refraction, as well as other sensory effects, Seishu Niihira pursues the contemporary expression of time and space through an experimental approach involving a complex layering of image, color, and medium.

At artTNZ, we are presenting Niihira’s works such as his newest series Inversion Reflection*, first shown in 2019, which features motifs of scenes from musical performances by pianists Bill Evans and Glenn Gould. We hope to draw your attention to the world of illusions created by Niihira.

*A new series that possesses elements of both the Inversion series, revolving around the theme of the passage of time and inverting spatial consciousness, and the Reflection series, fusions of two images that appear like scenes reflected into a window.
